HIKING ON VENGSØY
One of the best ways to experience Vengsøy is simply by walking.
The island has several hiking trails that take you through mountains,
along the coastline, across open landscapes, and into the quiet rhythm of nature here.
Some hikes are short and easy. Others are longer and more demanding.
All of them offer space to slow down and experience the landscape a little closer.
The weather and light change quickly on the island, which means no hike ever feels
exactly the same twice.

Hundbergtinden
One of the favourite hikes among our guests.
Hundbergtinden can be walked all year round and offers beautiful views across the sea, mountains, and surrounding islands. The trail feels different in every season — from bright summer evenings beneath the midnight sun to calm winter days with snow covering the landscape.
Some guests head up for sunrise. Others walk slowly and stop often along the way simply to take in the view.
Stortinden
A longer hike for those wanting to explore more of the island landscape.
Stortinden can be hiked throughout the year, although winter conditions sometimes make the final part towards the top more challenging. Even without reaching the summit, the hike itself offers wide open views, fresh Arctic air, and a feeling of being far away from busy places.
This is a beautiful hike for guests who enjoy longer days outdoors.

Vengsøytraversen
A demanding full-day hike across the island’s mountain landscape.
Vengsøytraversen is one of the longest and most challenging hikes on Vengsøy, best explored during summer and autumn when the terrain is more accessible and the mountains open up fully.
The route takes you across several peaks and through changing landscapes, with steep sections, uneven terrain, and long stretches far from roads or buildings. This is a hike for those who genuinely enjoy spending long days in the mountains.
Along the way, you’re rewarded with wide views across the sea, surrounding islands, and the raw northern landscape that makes this part of Norway feel so special.
The route has also been featured on the Norwegian TV series 71° nord, known for showcasing demanding hikes and raw northern landscapes.
This is not a quick afternoon walk. It’s a proper mountain hike — the kind of day you feel in your legs afterwards, but remember for a long time.
Rekvika
Rekvik is a peaceful coastal hike best explored during spring, summer, and autumn.
The trail takes you through open nature and along the shoreline, with beautiful views towards the sea and surrounding mountains. On calm days, it’s the kind of place where many guests stop for a while, listen to the waves, and simply enjoy the quiet surroundings.

Gammen
A small and accessible hike suitable for all ages and all seasons.
Gammen is perfect for slower days outdoors when you still want to experience nature without planning a long mountain hike. The walk is calm and easy, making it a lovely option for families, quiet evening walks, or simply getting outside for fresh air and changing light.
Storvannet
A peaceful walk best suited for spring, summer, and autumn.
Storvannet offers a quieter experience close to nature, surrounded by open landscapes and changing northern light. Many guests enjoy bringing coffee, sitting by the water, and spending time here without needing to rush anywhere.
Sometimes the simplest walks become the ones people remember the most.
