WHY WE CREATED VENGSØY

More than a place to stay

Vengsøy started with a feeling.

Years ago, after travelling and spending time in places like Lofoten, we came home thinking: why couldn’t we create something meaningful here too?

Not something big or polished.
But something honest.

A place people could arrive at and immediately feel the difference.

We are Maria and Nils-Jørgen, and together we have built Vengsøy Rorbuer step by step. What started with a dream and a few ideas has slowly become a small place we are deeply proud of.

For us, this has never only been about cabins.

It has always been about creating a place where people can feel calm, connected and close to nature.

A place where you don’t have to perform or rush through a checklist of activities.Where it’s enough to simply be.

Life on Vengsøy is simple in the best possible way.

You arrive by ferry.

You stop by the local shop.

You fill the fridge, cook your meals, light candles, go for a walk or sit outside watching the weather move across the sea.

Some guests climb the mountains.

Others spend hours in the sauna before taking a cold dip in the ocean.

Many simply enjoy having time together without distractions.

And that’s exactly what we hope people take with them after staying here.

Not only memories or photos — but a feeling.

A slower rhythm.

A clearer mind.

The feeling of having truly been somewhere real.

We also believe places matter.

Small communities matter.

Local stories matter.

The people who live in places like this matter.

That’s why it’s important to us that Vengsøy grows in a way that still feels rooted in the island and the life here. We want this to be a place that gives something back — both to the guests who visit and to the community around us.

Our dream is still growing.

One day, we hope Vengsøy will become an even stronger gathering place on the island. A place where people meet around food, conversations, traditions and shared experiences.

But at its heart, the idea stays the same.

To create a place that feels warm, honest and real.

And to welcome people into a slower way of living — even if it’s just for a few days.
